Getting Started

Installation

Download the DMG, clear Gatekeeper once, and let the setup guide do the rest.

  1. Download the latest Perchnote build for macOS and drag it into your Applications folder.
  2. Open it. On first launch macOS may warn you about an app downloaded from the internet. Open it once from Finder (right click, then Open) to clear that.
  3. Perchnote needs macOS 14 or newer. Check under the Apple menu, then About This Mac, if you are not sure.
  4. The first time you launch, the setup guide walks you through permissions and a quick test recording. See Your first recording.

You do not need to install Whisper, ffmpeg, or any command line tools separately. Transcription models are downloaded from inside the app when you pick one.

If you want to run a local AI model instead of a cloud one, install Ollama separately. Perchnote will detect it. This is optional.
